Many know of Romans 8:28, but have we heard it recited correctly from the King James Bible? Too often it is MIS-quoted as, “…all things work together for good to them that… are called…” The article “the” before the word “called” is commonly left off. Though the word is only three letters and can sometimes be omitted in modern standard English, should we remove it?
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are THE CALLED according to his purpose.
“THE CALLED” is very important exactly as is written because it denotes a title, a position, and a responsibility. As a Bible-believing, born again, sanctified child of God, you are THE CALLED. You are in a particular and peculiar class.
Many are called, the Bible says in Matthew chapters 20 and 22, but few chosen. True Believers are not of the many, but are of the FEW.
YES, you have been called and you have also been chosen, but Romans 8:28 specifically says you are “THE called” as in elite—separated for a unique purpose.
1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Romans 1:6
Among whom are ye also THE CALLED of Jesus Christ:
It’s similar to a few members of the military being charged with a special mission; an extraordinary unit designated to do something different from others.
Name one purpose of those who are of THE CALLED. Re-read 1 Peter 2:9. You are to broadcast the praises of the One who has ordered you out of darkness and into his light.
You are the crème de la crème of the cheerleading squad FOR JESUS.
You were chosen to be part of an honored few to honor the One. You are "THE CALLED" precisely and only because of who He is--the Most High.
