There are times when situations change--seemingly for the worse. One may experience a range of emotions from sadness to anger to hopelessness and even to out-of-the-box creativity toward improvements.
Here, a prophet expresses major unhappiness concerning a particular situation. He relates the season of trouble in musical terms:
Our psaltery (musical instrument) has been put down. Our song has been silenced. Our rejoicing has come to an end.
He compares the turbulence to darkness in saying the light of the candle has been put out.
Where he says the ark of the covenant has been spoiled and the holy things have been defiled, he is saying those things which were usually considered most sacred, are now ruined.
He continues by saying the name that has been called upon (God's name, or more clearly, God's position of authority) has nearly been profaned. He stresses that everyone connected to God, including children, women, princesses, priests, virgins, righteous men, young men, and strong men have been violated, destroyed, stolen weakened and/or imprisoned.
Lastly, and most intensely, the prophet mourns the overall loss of honor. He proclaims, "...greatest of all... is that the seal of Zion has now LOST HER HONOR and that she, Zion, has been delivered into the hands of those who hate her."
There may well be prophecy in this passage, particularly for what may soon no longer be what is now called "the United States of America".
